Video Acquisition Format Survey Results

From SCRI (via DMN): According to the SCRI/DMN Digital Media Facility Trends Report, over half of all digital media facilities polled (53.7%) reported supporting Mini DV for video acquisition in 2002. DV/DV Cam ranked a close second with almost half of all facilities (47.2%) supporting this format. VHS / S-VHS ranked third with 42.9%. Rounding out the top five acquisition formats were Betacam / SP (36.3%) and MPEG-2 (29.4%). The full list of acquisition formats is shown in this graph.

What's really important is that almost 30% of acquisition is in MPEG2! In addition, more than 40% of acqusition is still on VHS/S-VHS! The move away from tape in video production is slowly but surely hitting critical mass.
