Will Tivo Become Obsolete?

Time Warner Launches DVR in NYC, July 2, 2003, TVPredictions.com: The service, which is available only to TW digital cable subscribers, will enable viewers to rewind, fast-forward and pause live TV as well as record up to 35 hours.

Time Warner will charge from $6.95 to $9.95 a month for the service, depending upon whether the viewer subscribes to a premium programming package.

The cable DVR creates more competition for TiVo and ReplayTV, which has struggled to generate new subs at retail. Several cable operators, including Cox and Comcast, are now providing DVR service to their customers.
